Welcome to the new school year!

-->
I wanted to welcome you to the new school year!
My name is Katie Malone-Smith & I am the new art teacher.
I am very excited to share my love & enthusiasm of art with your students.
A bit of background on me in case you are curious.
My education is in Photography, Art & Teaching. I graduated from Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turners Falls, MA in 1999. In 2006, I graduated from Paier College of Art in Hamden, Ct with a BFA summa cum laude in Fine Art and Photography. This past spring, I finished a Post-Bachelorette Teaching Degree in Art Eduaction at Westfield State College.
I have worked as a freelance photographer & graphic designer since 1999 and have worked for clients including Ethan Allen Furniture, The American Red Cross, McTeigue & McClelland Jewelers, as well as private clients for wedding & portrait photography. My main passion, however, is teaching! I have been teaching in some capacity since 2002. I have taught gymnastics, figure skating, aquatics, in summer camps and in preschools. I moved to Berkshire County from Connecticut in 2006 with my husband, Clinton, who is a glass blower. Since moving up here, I have worked at Undermountain Elementary School as the lead After School Enrichment program teacher as well as substitute teaching in the art departments for half a dozen area schools. I have also taught art and fitness classes for children at Berkshire South Community Center since moving to the Berkshires. Most recently, I worked at Monument Mountain Regional High School last year as the photography teacher.
I am truly happy to be working with middle school students. They have so much energy and curiosity at this age, all while going through life changing transitions of new responsibilities, challenges and freedoms.
I will be updating this blog weekly to keep you up to date on the exciting world of middle school art at MVRMS. I hope you follow me in the journey, as it will be an awesome experience for us all.
Katie
